Follow us on Instagram to take a look at our projects as they develop from design to reality.
This project began with a simple brief: A new patio and a garden that felt tired and underused.
Through considered planning and thoughtful planting design, we were able to reshape the layout - creating a larger, more functional outdoor space while enhancing the garden’s natural beauty.
From initial design through to brickwork, paving and planting, every element was delivered with care and attention to detail.
Hearing that the space has encouraged our client to spend more time outside, and even reignited their love of gardening, is exactly why we take such care with the planning stage.
A well-designed garden doesn’t just improve how it looks.
It changes how it’s lived in.

There’s been a clear shift in how gardens are used.
They’re no longer spaces you step into occasionally - they’ve become part of everyday life.
A place to relax.
To host.
To work.
To spend time with family.
But with that shift has come more choice… and more complexity.
Pergolas, outdoor kitchens, lighting, fire features, garden rooms - it’s easy to focus on what to include.
The reality is, that’s not where good gardens start.
They start with layout.
Flow.
And how the space will be used day to day.
Our latest blog breaks down what defines a modern outdoor living space -
and why design matters more than ever.

It’s British Hedgehog Awareness Week
A good reminder that small changes in our gardens can make a real difference.
Hedgehogs need connected, safe spaces to move, feed and rest - and our gardens can play a big part in that.
Here are a few simple ways to help:
🦔 Create access gaps
A small hole in fencing (around 13cm x 13cm) allows hedgehogs to move freely between gardens.
🦔 Let areas grow a little wilder
Longer grass, log piles and natural planting provide shelter and encourage insects.
🦔 Add a shallow water source
Especially important during warmer months.
🦔 Avoid chemicals where possible
Slug pellets and pesticides can be harmful - natural alternatives are better for the wider ecosystem.
🦔 Provide shelter
Dense planting, hedgehog houses, or even a tucked-away corner can give them a safe place to rest.
It doesn’t need to be a complete redesign. Just a few thoughtful changes can help create a garden that supports wildlife - while still working as a space you enjoy using.

Water has a way of changing how a garden feels.
It softens the space. Brings movement. Draws you in.
But a well-designed water feature does more than that. It introduces sound, reflection, and a natural focal point… while also supporting wildlife and biodiversity in a way few other elements can.
The key is how it’s designed and where it sits within the garden.
In our latest blog, we explore how to approach water features properly - from choosing the right type and positioning, to creating something that feels like a natural part of the space rather than an add-on.
If you’re considering a water feature, it’s a good place to start.

J&S Scapes totally transformed a grassed, relatively boring area of our garden into a formal, sculptural but really useable area. Whilst the end result is stunning, the way they work is also great. Everything from initial concept through to final planting was really professional. They listened hard to our brief, accommodated and adapted to our changing requirements and included us in all aspects of the project. The team were a pleasure to work with and have kept in touch to see how the garden has developed.
